Stratford Fire Department Promotes Three [Photos]
A ceremony to celebrate the promotions of three veterans of the force was held on Thursday.
The Stratford Fire Department looked in-house to fill vacancies on the force. Three veterans of the department were promoted on Thursday at a swearing-in ceremony at Town Hall.
“We perpetuate our own existence by the constant training and vigilance by our members; as well as training and indoctrinating our new members,” said Assistant Chief Tom Murray, “so there are always those who are ready to step in and take on ever increasing responsibilities to protect their fellow man.”
- Kevin Lantowsky, who joined the Stratford Fire Department in 1998, was promoted to lieutenant. He serves as a member of the Mid Fairfield County Hazaroud Materials Team and is a former union president. He lives in Shelton with his wife, two sons and a daughter.
- Douglas Reitmeyer, a Stratford native, was promoted to assistant chief. He joined the department in 1997, holds a degree in business management from Albertus Magnus College and is a member of the Mid Fairfield County Hazardous Materials Team. He lives in Oxford with his wife, son and two daughters.
- John Conway, who joined the department in 1987, will now be assistant chief. Before being hired, he was at SWAT officer and deputy sheriff in Lee County. He lives in Stratford with his wife and is a father of two.
"Congratulations to all three of you…I think it speaks volumes to the dedication you have for this department," said Mayor John Harkins.
