Obituary for J. Bruce Alessie, Economic Developer

For more than a dozen years, Alessie worked in Stratford Town Hall. Services are monday.

J. Bruce Alessie, 72, of Stratford, the beloved husband of Jane Sullivan Alessie passed away suddenly on Jan. 5 in Bridgeport Hospital. Bruce was born on Dec. 13, 1939 in Bridgeport and was the son of the late John and Sarah Bruce Alessie.

Bruce was a graduate of Fairfield Prep and continued his education at the University of Dayton, where he played baseball as a pitcher and first baseman and received a Bachelor’s of Science and then went on to receive a Master’s Degree at the University of Bridgeport. Bruce worked as the Special Projects Coordinator for Economic Development in the town of Stratford, as well as the State Representative of the 122nd district under Governor Grasso.

He was also a realtor in Stratford for many years, a US Army veteran, actively involved with the Sterling House, Stratford Little League, St. Mark Basketball, Stratford Exchange Club, the Mayor’s Golf Tournament at Mill River Country Club, and most of all enjoyed spending precious time playing golf and other sporting activities with his grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife Jane of 48 years, he is also survived by one son J. Michael Alessie and wife Arleen J. of Milford, one daughter Kimberly Ann Alessie of Stratford, two grandsons Michael J. and Joseph B. Alessie both of Milford, bother-in-law Edward Sullivan and wife Sonya of Hamilton, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held on Monday Jan. 9 at 9:00 a.m. in the 2220 Main Street  and at 10:00 a.m. in  on 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Birendra Soreng. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-7 p.m..
