EMS Administrator's Lawsuit Scheduled for Trial Starting June 6

The judge dismissed three claims, but allowed Donna Best's claim that it was illegal for Mayor John Harkins to hire EMS Chief Philip Onofrio as her boss.

A judge will allow EMS administrator Donna Best’s lawsuit to go to trial, claiming that Mayor John Harkins as her boss.

The Connecticut Post reported that Judge Dale Radcliffe dismissed three of the claims in Best’s lawsuit, but will allow the remaining claim that Onofrio is holding the office illegally.

Best contends that when Harkins demoted her and hired Onofrio, he usurped the authority she has under the town charter, which does not provide for two EMS directors.

The Post said the issue has been scheduled for trial starting June 6 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
