Celebrating National Nursing Home Week at Bishop Wicke Health & Rehab!!

Staff, residents, and family members celebrated National Nursing Home Week, May 12-16th, with an abundance of Hawaiian festivities at Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center. Honoring the theme, “Celebrating the Aloha Spirit,” the Bishop Wicke team organized a week’s worth of fun activities to inspire staff and residents; acknowledging the difference they make in each other’s lives. With a focus on the community’s mission and vision, a Hawaiian word was shared each day in representation of Bishop Wicke’s five core values: Stewardship (Malama), Collaboration (Laulima), Respect (KaHoihi), Spirituality (Pono), and Excellence (Mana).

The community was transformed into an island paradise for the week with Hawaiian details in every corner of the building, including a giant glowing volcano and tiki bar. Activities throughout the week included an annual breakfast buffet, Hawaiian shirt contest, Hawaiian bowling, a hula hoop contest, pig roast luau, limbo contest, fountain ceremony and an annual Spirit Renewal event, which were all open to staff and residents. All activities were designed to foster a sense of community and strengthen relationships between caregivers and the patients and residents they serve. The community showcased their excellence in customer service while proudly committing to continue to learn and grow together as a family, echoing a quote from the weekly program calendar which read, “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” (Quote from Lilo and Stitch)
