Two Roads Releases Beer Dedicated to Stratford Mayor John Harkins

Two Roads has brewed a new beer dedicated to Stratford mayor John Harkins for his support of Two Roads Brewery.

Cognizant of the importance of bringing new businesses to Stratford and revitalizing decaying sections of our town, the mayor was instrumental in securing of the defunct Baird factory site on Stratford Avenue.

The new brew is a maibock and has been dubbed Hizzöner.

The mayor himself was on hand at the brewery Friday acting as burgermeister to celebrate the tapping of the beer brewed in Hizzöner . . . er . . . his honor.

The keg arrived in dramatic style on a hook from the brewery floor amid the din of Wagner's Ride of the Valkryies. The keg was then heaved onto the bar to the delight and applause of all in attendance.

Prior to the ceremonial tapping of the keg, assistant brewmaster John Rehm spoke briefly about the maibock style of beer.

Maibock is a traditional spring lager. Translated from German, maibock literally means the bock beer of May. Maibocks are a strong malty lager distinguishable from traditional bocks by the bittering presence of hops.

Then, with Two Roads CEO Brad Hittle at his side and the cask braced in waiting, Mayor Harkins tapped the keg and the maibock began to flow.

His Honor got the first taste of Hizzöner and pronounced it "smooth" and "delicious."

I couldn’t agree more.

The maibock compliments well the existing cast of Two Roads beers. As the burgermeister decreed, this is indeed a smooth and delicious beer. Hizzöner is abundantly tasteful and dangerously quaffable. Indulge judiciously!

Two Roads Brewing Company is located in the newly renovated Baird factory building at 1700 Stratford Ave., Stratford, Conn. 06615. The tasting room is open every day except Monday and brewery tours are held on Fridays, Saturday and Sunday. Visit TwoRoadsBrewing.com for more information.
