UI and SCG Hosted Storm & Infrastructure Planning Meeting

Baldwin Center was site of meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m.

UIL Holdings Corp. and its four operating companies — The United Illuminating Company, The Southern Connecticut Gas Company, Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation and The Berkshire Gas Company — have scheduled a series of community meetings to engage the public, provide information and answer customers’ questions.

Officials were in Stratford Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Baldwin senior center, 1000 Broad St.

UIL, the longtime parent company of The United Illuminating Company, acquired the three natural gas utilities last November from a subsidiary of the Spanish-based Iberdrola SA. The acquisition resulted in a larger energy utility company that serves a total of 690,000 customers in 66 communities in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

"We’re excited about this opportunity to introduce our customers, new and old, to UIL and its utility operations in New England,” said James P. Torgerson, UIL’s president and CEO. “We’ll also be giving presentations on a number of topics that our customers frequently inquire about. And most importantly, we look forward to hearing directly from our customers, answering their questions and helping them find solutions to their energy challenges.”

The community meetings will continue through October, covering a variety of topics including an introduction to UIL, conservation, energy efficiency, natural gas and electric safety, the environmental benefits of natural gas, storm response and much more.

The program expands on last year’s successful series of 22 local and regional community meetings held by UI.

“We learn a lot from our customers every time we reach out to them and listen,” said Anthony J. Vallillo, UI’s president and chief operating officer. “There are also a lot of exciting things going on at our companies right now, so it’s important that we keep all of our stakeholders informed.”

Meetings are being scheduled for the convenience of customers of each of the four companies: UI, SCG, CNG and Berkshire. However, all UIL customers are invited to attend any meeting at a convenient time and location. Information about additional meetings will be released as it becomes available.
