Studio Company Buys Old Exxon Property in Stratford

Broadway Stages purchases space for $1.7 million.

A New York City studio company has purchased the former 292,000-square-foot Exxon Mobil facility on Lordship Boulevard for $1.7 million, the mayor’s office announced on Friday.

The Brooklyn-based buyer, Broadway Stages, is a full-service film, television and music production enterprise whose facilities have shot TV shows that include “The Good Wife,” “Smash” and “Rescue Me,” and films that include “The Good Shepherd” and “Spider-Man 3.”

From their website: “We have been an integral part of New York City for over a quarter century. Its company and clients have employed thousands of people, and have created hundreds of local jobs.”

The company’s stages have been used for film, TV, music videos, commercials and studio photography, according to the website.

Town officials said the property was sold to Anthony Argento of Broadway Stages. Argento could not be reached for comment late Friday.

Back in March of 2010, the Stratford Zoning Commission reportedly approved a similar proposal for the space called Dogstar Studios. But that group “never reached a sale agreement with Exxon,” according to Marc Dillon, the mayor’s chief of staff.

At the time, the Connecticut Post reported that sources indicated the property at 495 Lordship Boulevard would sell for $6 million.

On Friday, Mayor John A. Harkins lauded the deal as “yet another positive step for Stratford’s economic recovery.”

“The purchase and reuse of the Exxon facility compliments Stratford Land Development’s plan to build and lease high-tech flex space for companies in the Stratford Executive Park, located just off of Lordship Boulevard,” Harkins said in a statement.
