Stratford Pasta Maker Expands Operation

Bruce Avenue's Nuovo Pasta will soon take the place of UAC Stratford on Honeyspot Road Ext.

A specialty pasta company in Stratford that has tripled its business since 2008 will soon double the square footage of its operation by moving to another location in town.

"We were looking for a larger facility, we wanted to stay in Stratford and this building came on the market," says Carl Zuanelli, president and founder of Nuovo Pasta.

The new 40,000-square-foot location at 1330 Honeyspot Road Ext. -- the current address of -- will double the operating space of Nuovo's present plant at 125 Bruce Ave., as well as add about 25 jobs, Zuanelli says.

"We have a new production line coming in from Italy," says Zuanelli of plans to start construction in a couple months and open the new facility in early 2013. All of Nuovo's manufacturing equipment comes from Italy, says the company's president, a New York native who started the venture in 1989.

Nuovo Pasta, which employs 72 people on Bruce Avenue, sells its award-winning pasta and sauces to stores and restaurants. In 2008, Nuovo began offering its products to larger supermarkets, which has just about tripled business, says Zuanelli.
