Restaurant Review in Stratford: Blue Goose

Local favorite still going strong after all these years.

Blue Goose, at 326 Ferry Blvd in Stratford since 1976, has been a landmark known by locals for their fine food, reasonable prices and good service.

They play a lot of older music in the dining area where the volume is perfectly set so you can enjoy it and hold a private conversation.  It brought back a lot of memories from the parties that my parents had back in the late 60's.

It was tough to choose a meal, because the menu had multiple selections that caught my eye and the specials made things even worse.  I wanted it all.  While procrastinating, the server brought over a small loaf of freshly baked bread and butter.  The bread had a nice crispy crust and was light and soft inside.

Our choices were the Fried Captain's Platter and the Veal Marsala.

We had salads to start.  They were fresh, clean and crisp. The dressing was served on the side so you can chose the right amount for your taste.

The Fried Captain's Platter was a very generous portion with Fish Filet, Shrimp, Bay Scallops and Whole Belly Clams.  The downside was there was only one Jumbo Shrimp, but the clams more than made up for it.  Everything had a light batter and were fried to perfection.  Most places have strips instead of whole belly clams.  Great value for your money.  Accompanied with wild rice and mixed vegetables, there was enough for a very hearty appetite.

The Veal Marsala was cut thick, but it was very tender.  The Marsala sauce had a nice flavor, but was a bit overpowering.  It was good for dipping the fresh bread.  It was accompanied with a side of pasta.  The portion was good, but didn't match the Captain's Platter.  A good choice if you like marsala.

The server was very friendly and on top of everything and we didn't have to wait for anything and did not feel rushed at all.  It was a very pleasant experience that I strongly recommend to anyone.

They have a full bar where you can gather with friends and a private room in the back for special events.

I highly recommend Blue Goose for quality, service and overall value.  If you haven't been there, you won't be disappointed.  I have to get back there soon and have the Surf & Turf.

I give it 4.25 out of 5 stars.
