New Stratford Deli to Open Aug. 12

Hudson's Deli eyes Aug. 12 opening in Stratford Center.

The following is a blog post by Gary J. M. McTrottes, a former reporter/photographer for the Bridgeport Post who contributes regularly to Stratford Patch.

Hudson's Deli, located at the front of the courtyard on Main Street, will open to the public on Aug. 12 if all goes according to plan.

Out on one of my power walks, I stopped in and had a quick talk with the owner, Scott Hudson, who has been hard at working getting the store ready for the public.

The new floor has a bright shine to it and the rest of the small area has been painted and cleaned up.

It has been a long time coming and the place should draw a large crowd of commuters as it is in walking distance from the train station's parking lots.

I do not think the opening of the deli will take away any of the business from the local restaurants on Main Street. This is a grab and go type of place. No tables, no chairs, get in, place an order, grab the food and get out the door New York style.

Scott was kind enough to give me a copy of the new menu and from what I see he is right in line with the prices that are charged by other facilities in the area.

He will have salads, tossed chef and antipasto. Side salads will include macaroni, potato, coleslaw, pasta, tuna, egg and chicken salad. Soups will also be available. Cold sandwich, ham, roast beef, turkey club, Italian club and many more.

Hot sandwiches include pastrami Reuben, corned beef Reuben, two New York favorites, along with a host of others. Scott will also do party platters and is working on getting hot dinners to-go ready for the grand opening.

The sandwiches run in the price range $7.95 to $8.95 and I believe that is a good price for takeout if the food is good.

Hopefully, the deli will thrive as it is needed in the downtown area around the train station to draw more people into that district.

I hope he does well and will check out the corned beef Reuben or the pastrami Reuben on a grinder with hot peppers when the doors do open.
