Blue Sky Diner Owner Gives Update on Closing

'The estimated costs for the structural repairs and renovations have exceeded well over $200,000 dollars,' writes the owner in the following message to customers.

To all our loyal and faithful customers,

First of all please accept my sincerest apologies for not opening in the time frame that I said we would.

The reason for this is due to circumstances beyond my control. Currently we are waiting to close on a deal with the State for financial aid.

I would also like to thank our customers for the love and support they have shown us in these troubled times regarding their diner.

Rest assure, we will open soon. The estimated costs for the structural repairs and renovations have exceeded well over $200,000 dollars.

When we eventually open, we will be better than we were before. We could have stopped at just the structural repairs and opened. However, we felt that a renovation was necessary so that we could better serve our customers and provide them with a place they will feel comfortable dining in.

Our motto is "When you're here, you're family." We miss our customers as much as they miss us. We can't wait to be back and see all "Our Family" again.

Thank you again for all the heartfelt love and support. See you soon back at the diner you've all have come to love and patronize. The Blue Sky Diner!

Sincerely,

Nikos Avramopoulos

Rumor has it the building is sinking because it was built on a marsh.

"When you're here, you're family" is Olive Garden's slogan and that place is gross.

you know whats fun rumors
Nikos Avramopoulos October 16, 2012 at 09:38 PM
"We" meaning my family and I have been saying that since my father first bought the business in 1974. I can't speak for the Olive Garden, but rest assure The BLUE SKY DINER DEFINITELY IS NOT GROSS! Thanks to our loyal customers, we were voted BEST DINER IN STRATFORD by the Stratford Patch. You can't get an honor like that by being gross.

Mr. Davis, Thank you very much for the blog. It's true, the building , built in 1963 was built on wet lands. However, what's not true is that the building is sinking. Prior to putting the structure in place, huge pilings, well over 50 ft long, were put in place. The diner was then set on these pilings. Being that the diner is turning 50 years old, if it were sinking, we would probably be underwater by now. Nikos Avramopoulos

Jon, You're absolutely right. Rumors are not only fun, but in most cases funny. One rumor we heard when the diner was closed was......... We closed the diner and bought the Blue Goose Restaurant . Another was, we were closed down for not paying our utility bills!!! Trust me........ These rumors........Definitely not true!!!! Nikos Avramopoulos

" When we eventually do open, my family and I would like to invite all our customers and potential customers to a Grand Re-Opening party! This will take place one day before the official opening of the diner. There will be a free buffet, and free non alcoholic drinks for everyone. I will post more information regarding this as the date gets closer. Posts will be via the Stratford Patch, Connecticut Post, and the Blue Sky Diner website: www.blueskydiner.com Hope to see you at the party! Nikos Avramopoulos

My Uncle Bill misses his weekly breakfast at "Mary's" (That's what he calls it). I'll give him the news!
Nikos Avramopoulos October 17, 2012 at 02:18 AM
Thank you for passing on the news. I'm sure Mary will be happy to see him once we open again.

There's like two total diners in Stratford. Bravo Vincent, Bravo!

I moved to Stratford, with my wife and son, from the Seattle area about a year ago. We found the Blue Sky Diner a short while afterwards and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere of the diner. They don't have places like this in Seattle. We were afraid that when it closed it would be closed permanently. We are very happy to see that they will be open again shortly.

oldman teenager you are a piece do you still live in your moms basement? Get a clue people work hard, and yes some people actually like to treat others "like family"
OldManTeenager October 18, 2012 at 02:54 PM
Franck, Not a clue what my personal living situation has to do with ANYTHING related in this thread. Go grab a Hot-N-Ready from Little Caesers. You probably really know a good meal.
frank October 18, 2012 at 02:59 PM

Franck, if I had to bet, you're probably shacked up in Camelot Apartments. What do you think, I'm going to give my address out? Complete your GED, it really shows in your comments around the Patch.
frank October 20, 2012 at 11:29 PM

Blue Sky Diner gets my vote for Best Restaurant. Where else can you enjoy hearty grub that'll keep you regular, while being entertained by late-night diner brawlers like "Tucked -In Teenager" and "Franck." The only thing better would be grabbing some hot-n-ready at the Camelot Motel. DING DING! We're ready for round two!
