Win $75 ShopRite Gift Card and Help Sterling House

Stratford Patch is celebrating our 1-year anniversary this Saturday with a food drive and free raffle outside the ShopRite on Barnum Avenue Cutoff.

A year ago today Stratford Patch joined the local scene as a platform to help make neighbors and businesses lives ridiculously easy in the town that offers "more from forest to shore."

The site has quickly become your daily destination for news, information on local events and happenings, and a place to connect with your community. So as we contemplated about how best to celebrate our first birthday, we could think of nothing better than to give back to the community that has given us so much.

And what's better as a thank you than the chance to win a $75 gift card for groceries at a local business!

To mark our 1-year anniversary, the Stratford Patch team is hosting a food drive and free raffle on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the . We'll be there from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The winner of the free raffle will get a $75 gift card to ShopRite -- just in time for the Super Bowl.

All you have to do to enter the raffle is stop by on Saturday and sign up for the free Stratford Patch newsletter, which delivers your local news and events right to your email every day. The winner, who will be chosen at random and contacted by email, must respond by 6 p.m. Monday in order to receive the gift card. See the attached document for full contest rules.

Now here's the best part.

As part of this event, Stratford Patch will be collecting donations for the Sterling House Community Center food pantry. And we're putting a fun twist on it. We'll have two drop boxes -- one for the Giants and the other for the Patriots. You can drop your donations into the team you want to win the Super Bowl and when all the donations are in, we'll let you know what team won the food drive.

So bring yourself, your ideas for improving Patch, your email address to sign up for a newsletter and any food drive donations to Saturday's event.

See you there.

I agree with Dale and Kevin! Go to Shop-Rite on Saturday and go Giants, beat the Pats again! Most importantly, let's hope it's a great game.

Looks like the Patriots donation cart is winning so far. Thanks everyone for the generous canned food donations. I'm sure Sterling House appreciates the support.

And the final tally (adding up units donated to the Giants and Patriots shopping carts respectively) is Patriots 76 and Giants 51. Way to represent, Pats fans. Let's hope the final score of tomorrow's game is similar. Thanks to everyone for your generosity!

Much thanks to Harry Garafalo, owner of Shop Rite, who graciously permitted Patch to set up outside of his story; Lou Perno of Sterling House, who let us collect donations on behalf of his worthwhile organization, but most of all, thanks to the Patch readers who stopped by today!

I found this too late! Are there any other food donation events planned?
