Let's Prevent This: Shorebird Tangled in Fishing Line

Local captures photo this week of cormorant tangled in fishing line at Brewer's Marina in Stratford.

Something that happens "way too often with our treasured shorebirds" made for a distressing photo that was shared on the Stratford Patch Facebook page this week.

"I see this way too often with our treasured shorebirds," wrote Donna Rae Henault Caporaso.

The photo was taken Wednesday at Brewer's Marina, located at the end of Broad Street in Stratford (Credit: Ross Allen).

"Please remind fishermen to be more aware of where and how they dispose of their lines and for everyone else who is out enjoying our shorelines, if they see fishing line laying around to pick it up and dispose of it properly," Caporaso wrote.

"Stratford is an important habitat for both resident and migratory birds, particular shorebirds," she continued. "Some are endangered, some aren't but we should all be more aware of what we can do to protect and preserve the birds and wildlife that visit our shores."
