Festival! Stratford Sneak Peek: 'Tymon of Athens'

Part six of the 8-part story series previewing the upcoming arts festival puts the spotlight on a production of Shakespeare's "Tymon of Athens."

"Tymon of Athens"

The Hudson Shakespeare Company's production of the Bard's "Tymon of Athens" takes place in Athens, but the ambiance is the bustling 1920s, amid mobsters, crooked politicians and con artists.

And at the center of it all is Tymon, a former soldier who is very generous with his money -- that is, up until that money runs out and creditors come knocking at the door and he realizes who his true friends are.

The Hudson Shakespeare Company -- in its 20th year touring Shakespeare -- is calling the production a case of "Shakespeare meets The Great Gatsby," as the main character, Tymon, thinks that the good times will never end.

But they do, and with our current financial crisis, the company says this production has tangible appeal.

"Tymon of Athens" will be performed on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 2 p.m.
