Festival! Stratford Sneak Peek: 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'

Part seven of the 8-part story series previewing the upcoming arts festival puts the spotlight on the featured performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Festival executive producer Jeffrey Lapham tells us more.

"A Midsummer Night’s Dream"

The cast of veteran professionals from Shakesperience Productions, Inc. and special guests will materialize to portray Shakespeare’s tale of mistaken identity, of good intentions gone awry, of mystical forces and their effects on mortal life, and of love won and lost, and won again.

Artistic director Emily Mattina balances this production in the mysterious territory between dreams and reality. The production cross-fades through the confining order and structure of the Athenian court, the lawlessness of the forest, and the disconcerting randomness of the dream state.

In true Shakesperience fashion, the audience for "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" is included in the magic as an essential player in the action against the backdrop of the bucolic glen of the American Shakespeare Festival Theatre on the Housatonic.

This production company is making a brief stop along the 2011 Vintage Shakesperience tour of Connecticut vineyards to headline the festival for the third straight year.
