"Stratford Sketches" Exhibit at the Library

  • “Stratford Sketches” is the art exhibit for February at the Stratford Library.  Shelton artist James Jansson will showcase his work - a series of original, framed pen and ink sketches of familiar locations around Stratford, Connecticut past and present.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and one of many art displays offered on an annual basis at the library.

James Jansson was born in Bridgeport and studied art with Thomas Gargiulo, Sally Fox and Judy Neilson.  A graduate of Stratford High and Housatonic Community College, he lived in Stratford from 1952-1976.  His illustrations have appeared in several Connecticut and Maine newspapers and magazines.  His work was also the cover art for Maine author Jim Baumer’s book, “Moxietown”.  With over 60 years of drawing experience, Jansson started pen and ink in the 1960s leading to his current series of Stratford sketches.   This is his first exhibit at the Stratford Library.
