'We Will Not Forget,' Says Soto Sister

Written by Davis Dunavin

As bells tolled across Newtown and firefighters lowered the flag nearby, family members of victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School led a crowd of hundreds in a moment of silence.

The time was 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14, six months since the shooting.

"Although it's been six months, we have not forgotten and we will not forget the ones who have died," said Jillian Soto, sister of slain teacher Victoria Soto.

Behind them, the Mayors Against Illegal Guns bus that would leave soon for a multi-state drive to end gun violence.

"Every death is a tragedy in its own right," said Steven Barton, a Southbury resident and survivor of the shooting in Aurora, Co. who works for Mayors Against Illegal Guns. "And Newtown has seen unspeakable tragedy. But looking out on you today, it's clear you're stronger than ever before."

Throughout the day, community members and others will read a list of names of victims of gun violence.
