Stratford Man's Nazi Flag Not Breaking Any Law

A Stratford homeowner who has decided to display a Nazi flag outside his home – apparently in protest of President Barack Obama and his policies – is not violating any law, according to police and a town official.

“There are no laws being broken,” Deputy Chief Joseph McNeil told Stratford Patch Thursday.

Fourth District Councilman Jason Santi also says he’s not aware of “any town or state law against it.”

In an email, Santi said it’s his understanding that the homeowner’s decision to fly a Nazi flag is protected under the First Amendment and free speech.

McNeil said officers visited Joseph Sincavage’s Connors Lane home on Wednesday and asked him to take it down as a courtesy to people attending graduation at nearby Bunnell High School, but Sincavage refused.

The deputy chief said while he knows residents are upset about it, there have not been any official complaints lodged at police headquarters.

Sincavage, a former U.S. Marine, told Patch earlier Wednesday that he wasn’t going to take the flag down until Obama changed his policy, resigned or got impeached.

However, McNeil said the flag was missing at two points during the day Thursday. It wasn’t up around 10 a.m. and again around 2:30 p.m., he said.
