While thunderstorms forecasted for this evening are expected to bring some much-needed rain, there is also potential for strong winds, hail and dangerous lightning.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook that warns of the potential dangers of the storm.
"The thunderstorms may produce damaging winds 58 mph or greater...or hail the size of quarters or larger," the NWS reports. "Frequent lightning and heavy rainfall may accompany the thunderstorms."
Before the storm hits, Stratford residents looking for relief from the 90-degree-plus heat can take shelter at one of the town's cooling centers:
- (2750 Main St.) 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Huntington Road Fire Station (1415 Huntington Road) 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Lordship Fire Station (20 Prospect Drive) 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Oronoque Fire Station (200 Oronoque Lane) 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
