Stephen's Pub Sold to Shriners International

Stephen’s Pub has been sold to Shriners International, a philanthropic men’s fraternity best known for its children’s hospitals and fezzes, the red conical hats all members wear.

The group bought the downtown Stratford property for $400,000 on June 21, according to records at Stratford Town Hall.

The longtime organization, which has nearly 200 chapters in seven countries, has yet to announce publicly what it plans to do with the old pub, says Karen Kaiser, the town’s director of economic development.
