Helmet Hearkens Back to American Shakespeare Theatre of Old

It’s not uncommon for old artifacts from the American Shakespeare Theatre to pop up throughout town, says the recent beneficiary of a helmet used in a production at the Stratford theatre more than 25 years ago.

“This happens all the time in Stratford,” Ed Goodrich, who’s also the chairman of the Stratford Arts Commission, tells Stratford Patch. “There’s just so much stuff all over town.”

Goodrich says his recent find can be traced back to a house that used to stand next to the theatre. When it was demolished some 25 years ago, a neighbor came over and picked up some items left behind, he says.

The neighbor passed away a couple years ago and his family recently started putting some of his belongings up for sale, including the helmet seen on the head of Goodrich above.

We also spoke to Goodrich about this year’s upcoming Festival! Stratford, to be held July 31-Aug. 4, and an Aug. 17 fundraiser on the theatre grounds that’ll feature musician Javier Colon, a Stratford native who won NBC’s “The Voice” in 2011. Those stories to come.
