The Yom HaShoah program, which is known internationally as Holocaust Remembrance
Day, is a memorial service of readings, prayer, and music commemorating the events of
the Holocaust under the Nazi regime of the late 30’s and 40’s. The service culminates
with the lighting of 11 memorial candles in memory of the 6 million Jews and 5 million
other targeted groups (including clergy, gypsies, homosexuals and the infirm) who died
during this devastating event in Europe.
Open to people of all faiths, the service will feature Bob Swirsky, a WWII veteran, who
as a tech. sergeant was among the American soldiers who liberated the Nordhausen
concentration camp. Swirsky will share a selection from his book, “My War.” For more
information, contact the Temple at (203) 378-6175.
