Reps. Hoydick & Miller Introduce Measure to Support Local Wine Seller

STRATFORD- State Rep. Laura Hoydick (R-120) has introduced legislation along with Rep. Larry Miller (R-122) aimed at giving flexibility to producers to market their inventory of wine kits to the consumer and provide the consumer options in sampling the product.  It would allow “micro-wineries” to provide a taste of wine to a potential customer before they make a commitment to purchase will greatly improve the opportunity to sell wine kits and encourage the growth of the industry.

“This is a growing industry in Connecticut, with potential for expansion and job creation,” said Hoydick.  “Current law prevents the sampling of such products, and by removing this prohibition, the chance of patrons purchasing wines is greatly increased.  Buyers will know what they are getting, and will no longer need to take the risk of making a purchase without knowing if they will be satisfied by or enjoy the product.  Quite simply, this bill supports a growing business model which can create jobs.”

Hoydick testified before the General Assembly’s General Law Committee on Thursday, March 6th, in support of the legislation.  She was joined by William Alletzhauser, owner and wine maker of Wine Makers Boutique in Stratford.
