McGorty Sworn into Office in House Chamber Ceremony

HARTFORD –Newly-elected Representative Ben McGorty (R-122) was sworn into office today at noon at the State Capitol during a brief ceremony in the Chamber of the State House of Representatives.  McGorty was elected in a special election on July 22nd to fill out the remainder of State Representative Larry Miller’s term after he passed away on May 31st.

McGorty was joined by his wife Noreen, daughter Siobhan and son Bennie in the second floor House Chamber in the State Capitol as Secretary of State Denise Merrill administered the oath of office.  House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero, Jr. (R-142), Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey (D-88) and Rep. Jason Perillo (R-113) of Shelton were also on hand for the event.

“I am looking forward to getting to work immediately on helping craft a more responsible and accountable state government, lower taxes, and reversing the direction our state has taken toward accumulated debt and excessive spending,” said McGorty.  “I am also especially dedicated to honoring the memory of Rep. Larry Miller by focusing on issues he and I always held as highly important such as affordable housing, job creation and good environmental stewardship.”
