Employers Encouraged to Register by Oct. 4 to Attend Free Step Up Conference in Milford on Oct. 8

WETHERSFIELD, October 3, 2013 – South Central Connecticut employers are encouraged to register by October 4 to attend the free Step Up conference to be held at the Boys’ and Girls’ Village Auditorium, located at 528 Wheelers Farms Road in Milford on October 8.

Topics for this employer-focused event include incentives such as the six month wage subsidy and training grants under the Subsidized Training and Employment (Step Up) Program, low interest financing through the Small Business Express Program, job expansion tax credits and guidelines for becoming a State of Connecticut vendor, state hiring incentives, tax credits and other opportunities to benefit their business.  Registration begins at 7 a.m. for this 8 to 10:30 a.m. event.

“Employers looking to grow their business will find the resources and the information they need all in one place to expand their employee base, purchase or upgrade equipment, or take advantage of tax credits and incentives,” said State Labor Commissioner Sharon M. Palmer.  “Our Step Up program, for example, has already helped nearly 550 small business owners hire 1,880 new employees.”

This event is being hosted by area legislators, including State Sen. Gayle Slossberg, State Rep. Paul Davis, State Rep. James Maroney, and State Rep. Kim Rose.  Sponsors include Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, Secretary of the State Denise Merrill, Connecticut Department of Labor, Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, several of the state’s Workforce Investment Boards, and other business and community partners.
