2012 Stratford Little League 8U Rookie Squad

See comments section below for updated schedule.

The Stratford Little League 8U Rookie Squad began postseason play last Sunday, July 8, versus Easton, Conn. in a scrimmage game that no one thought would lead to oh so much more.

Playing together for the first time in their inaugural game as a team is no easy feat for a baseball player of any age…let alone this group of 7- and 8-year-olds.

Defeated only by the scoreboard 7-5 the SLL 8U team marched off the field with their heads and spirits higher than the tallest skyscraper on Earth.

Thursday (July 12) night at Short Beach in Stratford the team hosted the visiting Trumbull 8U team.

Like David versus Goliath our little stone throwers took the field with reckless abandon. Again a victim of the scoreboard and the Trumbull bats, who seemed to place each and every hit a mere 12" from all of our little gloved paws.

Final score was 19-4 but again the team stripped their handsomely crafted Martin Sports maroon jerseys off (courtesy of awesome Jeff Wilkerson @ right here in town), to be adorned with an SLL logo and player #, and munched on snacks and drinks shirtless in their victory of having fun.

Next up for the Red Tide, our nickname…Google it, is Black Rock in the first game of an 8 team Round Robin Tournament at Unity Park in Trumbull.
