The governor plans on signing into law the bill that would allow Sunday liquor sales, and a few town stores say they will be open this weekend.
A new law allowing businesses to sell alcohol on Sunday, and on Monday holidays, is slated to go into effect this weekend. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is poised to sign into law Thursday a bill amending Connecticut's Blue Laws, giving permittees the option of selling liquor and beer from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The law, slated to go into effect immediately, also allows stores the option of selling on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, and on Mondays following a Christmas or New Year's Day holiday that falls on a Sunday. Malloy will sign the bill into law Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Enfield Town Hall. After the law goes into effect the only state left to prohibit Sunday liquor sales will be Indiana. U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy received 76 percent of the delegate vote in Connecticut but his challenger, Susan Bysiewicz, still qualified for a primary to be held in August to settle the party nomination.
Conditions are favorable for U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy to win the Democratic nomination for a U.S. Senate seat. Though challenger Susan Bysiewicz won the delegate vote in Stratford, 18-6, Murphy received 76 percent of the statewide delgate vote at the Democratic State Convention on Saturday, according to CT News Junkie. Despite the statewide 3-to-1 vote margin, the vote total for Bysiewicz, the former Secretary of State, is enough to force a primary to be held in August between the two well-known politicians, the article noted. BLUMENTHAL: West Hartford is the first community in Connecticut to receive approval from FEMA for reimbursement of clean-up costs in the wake of October's snowstorm, according to Patch.
