Who Was The Greatest Republican President? [POLL]
On the week that marks Abraham Lincoln's Birthday, we ask you who's your favorite Republican president?
Today is Abraham Lincoln's birthday, which in Connecticut remains a holiday for state workers (but not municipal).
Lincoln is credited by many with building the Republican party into a strong national organization. And of course Republicans are in the headlines these days as they battle to figure out who will challenge President Obama in November.
Who is your favorite Republican president? Take our poll and add your thoughts in the comments.

Despite his faults, Theodore Roosevelt. He had the foresight to create our National Parks and to save these beautiful areas from bourgeois exploitation a hundred years ago for all of us to enjoy, even today. Visit Glacier National Park or hike the John Muir trail just once in your life to understand what I'm saying.

Jacobo, I voted for Teddy Roosevelt for the same reason. He was a forward-thinking environmentalist way before the rest of the country even thought about the issue.

I was going to vote for him, but they said I was too young. I'm glad though; after doing some reading I realized that he was friends with all the bourgeois and he was a eugenics kind of guy. Thinking back, I would have voted for Taft I guess. I was always forward looking like this. One time when I was at a penny arcade, I had an idea of having people sing into a dictaphone and distribute it throughout the country where the random singers that were sampled on the recording could be judged by the public and then teletype their decisions to a centralized location. It never worked out though, so I spent the last 100 years wondering “what if?”

Ronald Reagan would get my vote. Carter left a mess, including the hostage crisis. People knew what Reagan stood for and what he would not stand for. By being clearly biased towards America (I mean, that is the job description!), negotiations with foreign powers were on equal footing (their heads of state favored their countries...their job description). He had a positive vision of and for America. He challenged us to live up to our history of hard work and generosity and standing up for those who couldn't defend themselves. I Miss Reagan.

You might want to research what happened to the federal deficit under RR and of course he fired all the air traffic controllers. Ironically, after having done so, Wasington National Airport was renamed to honor him by the short memoried congress.

Abraham Lincoln gets my vote, The Emancipation Proclamation 1863, hands down the greatest executive order ever issued. Even despite not being well liked during his presidency the man was wise beyond his own years. Imagine, What he might have accomplished if Booth hadn't taken his life.

Comparing presidents from different centuries is like comparing baseball players from different eras -- it is pointless. Lincoln was the greatest president of his time and Reagan was the greatest of his time. Reagan restored pride in this country, rebuilt our military (which was why he ran deficits), oversaw the defeat of Soviet communism, and revived our economy through tax cuts and deregulation. That is the path we need to get back to, and away from the socialist path our current president has us on that is leading this country toward bankruptcy.

Points to Eisenhower for his farewell speech warning against " acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military–industrial complex".
Shame no one heeded it.

Anne what I mean is the news media never tells the whole human story regarding any president. One has to remember Presidents are humans with straights and weakness like all of us. The news media make Republican presidents look like fools or they make them look like geniuses. The same can be said about Democratic President also.
Read news articles from President Washington to President Obama and then read what historians wrote about these presidents and you will wonder if you are reading about the same people. That’s why I said do your homework and you will find the Greatest Republican President and if the HamdenPatch News article was about Democratic Presidents I would have said the same..

Prior to becoming President, Eisenhower commanded the invasion of Europe and saved the world from fascist tyranny.
