This Week's Whiz Kid: Collin Anderson

Collin is an active member of the Stratford community who dedicates his successes to his late-grandfather.

Name: Collin Anderson, 18.

School: Bunnell High School.

Achievements: Graduating this year from Bunnell High School, Collin has been the Council Treasurer for the Bunnell Class of 2011 in Grades 9, 11 and 12.

Collin has been a member of the Student Theatre Arts Guild of Entertainment, Bunnell's Drama Club, throughout his high school career. He has performed in nine shows and is currently the president of the club. Collin performs with Stratford's summer theatre company, In the Spotlight. He recently auditioned for what will be his seventh show with the program. Collin is also a member of Lauralton Hall Drama, where he has performed three shows in tenth and eleventh grades.

As chairman of the Youth and Family Advisory Board (YAFAB), which he has been a member of since ninth grade Collin, along with approximately 30 other members from Stratford High Schools and organizations, manages a budget of $5,100 in grant money each year. The money is awarded to various Stratford community projects. As a result of his commitment to YAFAB, he was awarded a trip to Nashville, TN, to attend a National Summit Against Underage Drinking.

He is also an active Superintendent Advisory member for Stratford. This is a town initiative in which a group of 16 students meet with Irene Cornish to discuss pertinent issues at the Stratford schools.

Collin was a Stratford Recreation Department volunteer who, due to his dedication, has since become a summer employee with the Summer Theatre Camp. This will be his fourth year of involvement with the program.

This fall, Collin with be attending Providence College to pursue a double major of psychology and pre-medical sciences, along with a minor in Spanish.

Key to Awesomeness: Collin is inspired by his grandfather, who, he says, "Pushed me all through my life to achieve academically, as well as acted as a mentor and idol for me as I grew up."

While his grandfather is no longer with the family, Collin continues to be inspired by his example and dedicates his successes to him and the rest of his family.
