Stratford Unemployment Rate Drops to 9 Percent

It's down 1.2 percent from July statistics but still .8 percent above the state average.

Over the past few months, Stratford's unemployment rate has dropped more than a full percentage point, according to October statistics released by the Connecticut Department of Labor.

Of the town's 26,177-strong labor force, 2,362 were without a job in October, which equates to a 9 percent unemployment rate. Back in July, .

However, Stratford is still above the Connecticut average unemployment rate of 8.2 percent, which was at 9.2 percent in July.

In October, Milford had an unemployment rate of 7.6, Fairfield and Trumbull both came in at 7 percent, and Bridgeport had about 8,000 or 12.7 percent of its workforce without jobs.

Nationally, 8.5 percent of the United States workforce was unemployed in October.
