St. Mark Students Bring the Gospel to Life

Three students win awards for their artwork.

The artwork of St. Mark students has brought the gospel to life.

St. Mark School students participated in "The Schoolchildren of the Diocese of Bridgeport Respond to the Book of Kells" art contest sponsored by the Bellarmine Museum of Art at Fairfield University. "The Book of Kells" is a famous illuminated manuscript containing Four Gospels, written by monks in medieval Ireland more than 1,200 years ago.

The students were challenged to design intricate and detailed manuscript pages illuminating their own gospel values. Winning entries were awarded to Angelina LaMonica (grade 6), Anna Nemergut (grade 3) and Kyle Fasanella (grade 7), who also placed second overall.

An award ceremony took place at the university on June 2. The works of art will be on display in the art gallery of the Bellarmine Museum at Fairfield University until September 2011.
