Retired Firefighter Disputes Town Pension Amount

Thomas S. Murray's pension is 36 percent higher than his base salary, but he believes it should be higher.

Assistant Fire Chief Thomas S. Murray’s retirement pension is based on his salary in 2011, when he was the highest paid employee whose pay was boosted by a settlement for backpay from a previous year.

According to an article by the Connecticut Post, Murray isn't satisfied with the $122,850 annual pension he was awarded after he retired in February, one of the highest town employee pensions in Stratford history, and has filed a complaint asking for more.

The Post said Murray’s pension is 36 percent higher than his base salary as assistant fire chief.
