Council Considers Victoria Soto Proposal Tonight

Should the Town of Stratford rename Honeyspot School in honor of the 27-year-old who died protecting her students at Sandy Hook Elementary School?

While a petition to rename a street after Victoria Soto gains momentum, tonight the Stratford Town Council will consider a proposal to name a public school in honor of the 27-year-old who died trying to protect her first grade students.

The proposal, brought forth by Mayor John Harkins, seeks to rename Honeyspot Elementary School after Soto. A Stratford native, she was one of six educators who were killed along with 20 students at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012.

Some Stratford Patch readers have already lent their support to the idea to rename Honeyspot after Soto. In an article published last week, here's what a few had to say:

"Victoria Soto certainly has a connection to Honeyspot School and it would be a wonderful tribute to her to name the new school after her...not because of how she died, but how she lived." — Theresa
