Cops: Stratford Man Punched Trumbull Officer

He was also wanted for an alleged previous assault. Officers later found a handgun in his apartment, police said.

A Stratford man fought Trumbull police and injured two of them Jan. 24 after threatening to kill a Trumbull woman, the mother of his children, police said Thursday.

Michael Elliott, 51, of North Avenue, was charged with interfering, resisting arrest, three counts of assaulting a police officer, breach of peace, disorderly conduct, criminal possession of a firearm, assault and threatening. He's also accused of domestic violence in a warrant regarding a Dec. 23, 2011 incident with the woman.

Police received a 911 call at 11:43 a.m. Jan. 24 from the children's mother that Elliott "had shoved her to the ground and threatened to kill her," police said. He ran away but officers spotted him on Daniels Farm Road near Park Street, where the suspect tried to flee.

But he turned around and charged at the officer and punched him in the face, police said. A passing off-duty Meriden police detective ran to help as traffic halted because of the fight, Trumbull police said.

A motorist stopped behind Elliott and allowed police to arrest Elliott against his car, also trying to help restrain the suspect. Elliott was screaming and cursing the whole time, police added.

Two more officers arrived and Elliott was subdued and handcuffed, police said.

Two of the officers received injuries from the struggle, one a facial injury and the other a finger injury. Elliott was not injured.

"During the struggle, a pistol magazine fell from Elliott's coat pocket. Officers searched Elliott but no pistol was found on him. Believing Elliott may have dropped the pistol as he fled the house from the assault, a canine searched the area but the pistol was not located," said Trumbull Deputy Police Chief Michael Harry.

"Elliott is a convicted Felon and has prior domestic violence convictions, banning his possessing a firearm. Trumbull police obtained and executed a search warrant for Elliott's apartment on North Avenue in Stratford. A .25-caliber handgun was located belonging to Elliott," Harry added.

Elliott was also wanted on an arrest warrant for allegedly assaulting the same woman on Dec. 23, 2011. Police said he punched the woman in the face while driving on Hawley Lane in Trumbull, injuring her lip.

He then ran from the vehicle and was not located until this new incident, police said. He's charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor and single counts of third-degree assault and second-degree breach of the peace in that incident, police said.

He is being held in lieu of $95,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Jan. 31 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
