Condo Board Backs Down on Mezuzah Ban
It was all a misunderstanding, says the condominium association's lawyer.
A woman can keep a mezuzah on the doorpost of her condominium unit at the California Condominiums, a week after $50 a day if she didn’t remove it.
The Connecticut Post reported that Kurt Ahlberg, the lawyer for the condo association, apologized to Barbara Cadranel and said that it was all a misunderstanding. Ahlberg told the newspaper he was on vacation last week when the controversy erupted.
The condominium bylaws prohibit hanging objects on unit’s doorposts, although Judaism has a commandment to hang a mezuzah, a small plaque containing a scroll inscribed with a Hebrew prayer, to the doorpost.
