George R. Sheftic of Stratford, died at his home on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. He was born in Derby on September 7, 1926 to the late Peter and Nancy Koltko Sheftic.
He was raised in Ansonia, he served in World War II in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer stationed in Guam. He graduated from the Junior College of Commerce in New Haven and was a graduate of the first graduating class of the University of Bridgeport.
Mr. Sheftic was employed at Avco-Lycoming and Textron for 40 years where he was manager of the material and production control department.
He is a lifetime member of the VFW #597 in Ansonia. He is also a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Stratford.
George is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Jeanette Sherman, and his two sons, Robert and his wife, Veronica and William and his wife, Donna. He also leaves grandchildren, Robert Sheftic, Jr., Sarah Sheftic, Cynthia Burke and her husband, Brien, Brian Maslar and his wife, Stacy, Kristen Stone and her husband, Jeffrey, Timothy Oppel and his wife, Johanna, Sarah Bordas and her husband, Attila, Gregory Oppel, Allison Oppel and six great-grandchildren, Michael McPadden III, Ayden Burke, David Maslar, Brady Maslar, Lorelei Bordas and Mackenzie St. Germain.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church. Interment in Union Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church Memorial Fund, 2000 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615. Arrangements were entrusted to the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford.
